45-49 Year Old Health Assessments

Medicare provides an opportunity for patients aged between 45-49 years old (inclusive) to have a

FREE (BULK BILLED) ONCE OFF HEALTH ASSESSMENT. The assessment is at no cost to yourself and is funded to the practice by Medicare.

To be eligible for the health assessment you need to have at least one risk factor for a chronic disease. The majority of people qualify as they will have multiple risk factors.

Some of the risk factors include but are not limited to:

  • Smoking,
  • poor diet,
  • physical inactivity (less than the recommended 30mins on most days of the week)
  • alcohol use
  • excess weight or extra fat around your waistline
  • high blood pressure
  • high cholesterol
  • high glucose (sugar), including during pregnancy
  • respiratory disease e.g. asthma, chronic cough
  • kidney disease
  • family history of a chronic disease e.g. diabetes, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease

The purpose of the health assessment is to assist you in making necessary lifestyle changes to prevent the onset and complications of chronic diseases e.g. diabetes and heart disease.

Patients who previously had the health assessment found it to be worthwhile in helping to prevent future problems by identifying health issues which may not have been raised during an ordinary consultation with their doctor.

You will be booked in to see our nurse for 30 minutes initially and then see me (or another doctor of your choice) for up to 20 minutes afterwards to complete the assessment.

Please contact Hughes Clinic on 8272 8266 to book your appointment.

Remember to advise our reception staff that you’re coming in for a 45-49 Health Assessment.

Please note – unfortunately you cannot book this type of appointment online.
